Modern molecular biology techniques, genetic engineering, cellular studies, tissue cultivation, and biochemical methods are revolutionizing environmental, medical, and agricultural research. Within biotechnology, these advanced biological tools are applied to create innovative solutions for societal challenges. The biotechnology curriculum focuses on building comprehensive knowledge of molecular and biochemical processes in living organisms (including animals, microorganisms, and plants). This program integrates practical laboratory work with coursework exploring diverse aspects of molecular, cellular, and whole-organism biology (detailed below). It fosters outstanding biotechnology training by engaging undergraduates in meaningful collaborations with professors through both academic instruction and laboratory research.

MBB program alumni enjoy exceptional career opportunities after completing their degrees. Graduates are well-equipped to pursue advanced studies in biological, environmental, medical, and agricultural fields, while also being prepared for professional roles in various industries (including biomedical, diagnostic, pharmaceutical, forensic, agricultural, environmental, and biotech sectors) and government research positions. Those aiming for medical, dental, or similar professional schools should consult with academic advisors to select appropriate MBB elective courses. By completing supplementary education coursework, MBB bachelor's degree holders also meet qualifications to teach at primary, secondary, and high school levels.

MBBE professors bring both teaching dedication and distinguished research accomplishments in their specialized fields. They offer undergraduates hands-on research opportunities (through MBBE 499), with many maintaining well-supported research initiatives employing cutting-edge technologies. Students can access exceptional on-campus resources to enrich their learning and research, including the Biological Electron Microscopy Center, Greenwood Molecular Biology Laboratory, and the Genomics, Proteomics, and Bioinformatics Research Institute.

Qualification Requirements

To be considered for admission, you must have completed or are in the process of completing secondary school with a cumulative or overall grade point average (GPA) that is comparable to a US grade of B (3.00 on a 4.00 scale) or higher. The Admissions Committee will also be looking at the grades/marks you have received for Mathematics and Science courses.
All official transcripts, examination certifications (e.g., General Certificate of Education) and other documents showing all high school and any completed post-secondary work must be submitted to the Office of Admissions. All official transcripts must be mailed directly by the institution or Ministry of Education to the Office of Admissions. Documents mailed or hand carried by you or anyone else will not be accepted as official or used for admission consideration.
Secondary school transcripts must include a list of courses taken and grades/internal marks received each year, class rank for the last four years of secondary school, and an explanation of the school's grading system. If transcripts with annual internal marks are unavailable directly from the school, you may photocopy your mark sheets or grade reports and have them certified by a school official who verifies that a transcript is otherwise not available.
