After successfully finishing this degree program and submitting passing scores on the required licensing exams, you'll be eligible for recommendation to the Hawaii Teachers Standards Board (HTSB) for initial teaching certification to instruct grades six through twelve (6-12) in general education settings. The undergraduate programs combine a solid liberal arts background with professional education coursework, subject-area specialization, teaching methodology training, and hands-on classroom experience. To enroll in most teacher preparation courses, students must achieve classified status within the College of Education, with many courses also requiring admission to State Approved Teacher Education Programs (SATEP). Detailed requirements for both elementary and secondary Bachelor of Education programs, along with SATEP criteria, can be obtained from the College of Education's Office of Student Academic Services (OSAS). All degree candidates must complete the program requirements current during their admission semester, while licensure seekers must satisfy SATEP standards in effect at their program admission date. Note that SATEP requirements are subject to modification by the licensing authority, the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). Teaching credential candidates must fulfill all licensure requirements applicable at their program completion date.
