After finishing this degree program and submitting passing scores on the required licensing exams, you'll be eligible for recommendation to the Hawaii Teachers Standards Board (HTSB) for initial teaching certification in grades 6-12 general education classrooms. The undergraduate programs combine a robust liberal arts curriculum with professional education coursework, subject area specialization, teaching methodology training, and hands-on classroom experience. To enroll in most teacher preparation courses, students must achieve classified status in the College of Education, with many courses also requiring admission to State Approved Teacher Education Programs (SATEP). Detailed requirements for elementary and secondary Bachelor of Education programs and SATEPs can be obtained from the College of Education's Office of Student Academic Services (OSAS). All degree requirements must be completed according to the standards in place during the student's admission semester. Those seeking licensure must satisfy all SATEP requirements current at their program admission date. Note that SATEP standards may be modified by the HTSB, and candidates must meet all licensure requirements applicable at their graduation date.
