After successfully finishing this degree program and submitting passing scores for the required licensing exams, you'll be eligible for recommendation to the Hawaii Teachers Standards Board (HTSB) for initial teaching certification to instruct grades six through twelve (6-12) in general education settings. The undergraduate programs combine a robust liberal arts curriculum with professional education coursework, subject-area specialization, teaching methodology training, and hands-on classroom experience. Enrollment in most teacher preparation courses requires classified status within the College of Education, with many also needing admission to State Approved Teacher Education Programs (SATEP). Detailed requirements for elementary and secondary Bachelor of Education programs, along with SATEP criteria, can be obtained from the College of Education's Office of Student Academic Services (OSAS). All degree requirements must be completed according to the standards active during the student's admission semester. Those seeking licensure must satisfy SATEP requirements current at their program admission date. Note that SATEP standards may be modified by the licensing authority, the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). License candidates must fulfill all certification requirements applicable at their program completion date.
