The Sociology Honors Program offers outstanding students a unique chance to advance their sociological studies through graduate-level coursework and faculty-guided research projects. Beginning with Sociology 100A, the Honors version of Introduction to Sociology, and progressing to SOC 300A, the Honors Principles of Sociological Inquiry, participants enjoy small class sizes and personalized mentorship throughout the program.
Enrolled Sociology majors gain additional advantages through the program's integrated structure. Certain Sociology courses count toward Honors requirements—for instance, SOC 491 can replace HON 491—allowing students to earn Honors distinction without extending their graduation timeline. Participants must still fulfill all standard degree requirements.
Beyond the listed courses, the Sociology Department strongly encourages students to explore other Honors offerings. The HON 300-level classes, such as HON 301, 303, and 380, focus on public policy education, civic participation, and leadership development—valuable skills across all academic disciplines.
