The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music offers a flexible liberal arts education combined with musical training. This program allows students and advisors to collaboratively design either:
A customized music curriculum that may incorporate specialized interests like music history, world music studies, or performance (piano/vocal/instrumental), or
A concentrated study path focusing on Hawaiian Music or Musical Theater.
Every BA candidate undertakes a culminating project to develop professional readiness in music fields. This capstone offers practical insights into potential careers through direct engagement. Based on individual aspirations, academic background, and professional objectives, students in the General BA or Hawaiian Music BA programs may choose between a Senior Project or a recital track at the junior level. The Senior Project, developed with faculty guidance, can take various forms including scholarly research, artistic creation, community initiatives, or professional internships. The recital option requires approval from both the student's performance instructor and the relevant department head (instrumental, piano, or voice). Musical Theater BA candidates must complete a junior recital as part of their degree requirements.
