As Hawaii's premier institution for film education, ACM: The School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) leads the way in cinematic arts across the Pacific region. Based in Honolulu at the University of Hawaii at Mnoa, SCA commits to scholarly and artistic distinction through its Bachelor of Arts program, fostering creativity and teamwork with a focus on Hawaii, the Pacific Rim, and Asian cultures. Situated in a state with a thriving entertainment sector, SCA promotes career growth, guidance, and community involvement via initiatives like internships, expert-led workshops, and special events such as the Hawaii International Film Festival.
SCA cultivates and inspires students to find their distinctive narrative styles, examining creative media expressions grounded in individual perspectives and location-based education through animation, film theory, digital production, and scriptwriting.
Fueled by endless inquisitiveness, SCA learners work together and assist one another in their artistic projects while maintaining professional and considerate conduct. SCA students craft screen narratives that celebrate diversity and self-expression, presenting glimpses into their societies, traditions, values, and life journeys. Whether during productions or academic sessions, SCA students personify the principles of rising creatives and academics aiming to inform, provoke thought, and captivate viewers through their creations.
The Cinematic Arts program serves as the core concentration for SCA students, delivering comprehensive training in film history, cultural context, narrative techniques, and production skills. This pathway offers flexibility to specialize in fields like film production, script development, non-fiction filmmaking, media analysis, along with intensive study and hands-on experience in each student's selected specialization. The curriculum spans multiple disciplines, enabling a wider appreciation of cinema as an artistic medium, storytelling vehicle, commercial enterprise, and cultural artifact.
