The Hartt School's Guitar Program stands as the nation's longest-running and most comprehensive performance-focused guitar education. Students can pursue degrees including a Master of Music, Graduate Professional Diploma, Doctor of Musical Arts, and Artist Diploma. Since awarding its first guitar degree in 1968, the program has grown significantly, now providing these advanced musical qualifications. Participants benefit from masterclasses led by internationally acclaimed artists like Oscar Ghiglia, Antigoni Goni, and Andrew York.

Program alumni currently hold or have held faculty positions at elite institutions such as New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, The Longy School of Music, and Oberlin Conservatory.

Students and graduates have achieved recognition in prestigious competitions including Venezuela's Alirio Diaz International Guitar Competition, Guitar Foundation of America International Guitar Competition, American String Teachers Competition, MTNA competition, and Appalachian State Guitar Competition.

Beyond classical guitar instruction, the curriculum encompasses chamber music, guitar pedagogy, historical repertoire, lute and baroque guitar studies, and electric guitar techniques. The program aims to produce graduates fully equipped for professional performance careers and academic positions. Weekly performance classes for all majors and our annual Evening with Guitar concert series (featuring six to eight public performances) provide essential stage experience in professional environments.
