Merging the intensity of conservatory instruction with a strong base in music pedagogy, this program equips you for a career teaching music in elementary and secondary schools. Hartt's Music Education Division provides one of the country's most thorough curricula. Blending rigorous conservatory training with fundamental music education principles, the program readies you to become a school music educator. Beyond general music instruction, majors study choral music, wind and string instrument teaching methods, along with specialized approaches like Kod√°ly, Suzuki, and Orff. Hartt's Master of Music Education (MMEd) programs cater to educators seeking advanced training in specific areas such as conducting, Kod√°ly, or research. With various specialization options available, you'll acquire the expertise to excel in your chosen field.
The Wind Band Conducting concentration serves graduate students aiming to refine their teaching and conducting abilities. This emphasis offers two distinct pathways. Most participants are current school music teachers pursuing summer-only graduate studies while continuing their full-time teaching positions. The alternative track prepares full-time students for doctoral programs (DMA or PhD) or academic careers in music education.
