The Master of Science (M.S.) serves as the professional qualification in Geology, paving the way for opportunities in natural resource exploration (including water, energy, and minerals), environmental regulation and protection within government agencies, and ecological restoration projects.
Our graduate program's core objective is to cultivate skilled geologists equipped with both a solid understanding of contemporary scientific challenges and robust technical expertise. Additionally, we strive to instill lifelong learning capabilities that will enable these professionals to identify and address emerging geological issues throughout their careers. Effective graduate study requires careful time management, making it essential to establish a clear academic and research roadmap early on. We strongly recommend completing all master's degree requirements within two years, while doctoral candidates should aim to finish within four years. Students should prioritize completing all degree requirements, including thesis or dissertation approval, before departing for employment. Graduates typically secure roles across industrial sectors, government institutions, and academic settings. As you embark on your professional journey, we value your future feedback about UGA's geology program, as your insights will help us maintain our position at the cutting edge of geological education and research.
