The UGA Geography Department stands as a premier hub for studying the natural and societal forces that define our planet. Our programs include both MA and MS degree options.
We examine worldwide distributions of resources, populations, cultures, and economic frameworks. Our studies explore the causes behind these distributions and contrasts between technologically developed and developing regions. The program investigates geographical influences on multiculturalism and ethnic dynamics within the U.S., along with spatial evolution of cultures, demographic changes, migration trends, urban growth, and the geographic aspects of political, economic, and social systems. Geography unlocks diverse career paths including International Business Consultant, Environmental Coordinator, Site Selection Analyst, Market Analyst, Urban Development Planner, Cartographer, Geospatial Technician, Climate Analyst, Resource Conservation Specialist, and Cultural/Environmental Educator. These examples merely scratch the surface of geography-related professions. Virtually every occupation gains value from geographical knowledge. Our alumni secure fulfilling positions with competitive compensation. Geography graduates' initial earnings rank among the highest in the Arts and Sciences disciplines, frequently surpassing starting salaries in many business fields. Many of our students advance to graduate studies in geography or allied fields.
