Students who complete the program gain expertise in fundamental biostatistical techniques, experimental design, public health surveys, statistical programming, biostatistical consulting, probability theory, and mathematical statistics.
The M.S. Program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics aims to educate students in understanding, applying, and assessing key epidemiological approaches, data analysis techniques, modeling strategies, and biostatistical methods for public health and biomedical fields. Furthermore, students will develop specialized knowledge in their selected concentration area: Biostatistics (BIOS), Epidemiology (EPID), or Data Analysis & Modeling (DAM). The Department follows competency-based learning principles established by the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health.
Although completion times may differ, most students typically finish the M.S. degree in approximately 2 years and the Ph.D. in about 4 years, depending on individual progress.

Qualification Requirements
All students must satisfy the requirements specified by the UGA Graduate School.
Applicants may have training in any discipline including but not limited to mathematics, public health, the biological or physical sciences, computer science, engineering, psychology, sociology, business, statistics or biostatistics. Previous coursework or standardized test results should demonstrate strong quantitative skills.
One unofficial transcript from each institution of higher education attended, except the University of Georgia. University of Georgia transcripts are on file. Official transcripts are not required during the review process and will only be required for applicants who are offered admission. Do not mail official transcripts until offered admission.
[OPTIONAL] Official GRE general test score report sent by testing agency. The UGA institutional code for ETS reporting is 5813. No departmental code is required.

This information is important since we often have limited funded positions available and if a strong candidate has independent, reliable funding, this will be important information for us to consider.
