The MEd degree is for certified secondary school teachers. This program allows you to upgrade your certificate and, optionally, to earn a coaching endorsement. Upgrade information is available on the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) website.

This program prepares you for leadership in mathematics teaching for grades 6-12. If you are interested in teaching PreK-8, see our Griffin program.

For teachers who already have a Master's degree, regardless of institution, the MEd program can be tailored into an EdS program that incorporates previous Master's work.

You will build skills and knowledge in mathematics, pedagogy and curriculum, and leadership. Our program fits the scheduling needs of full-time teachers and prepares them for leadership roles in schools and districts by including course work and practical experiences in coaching, curriculum design, and analysis of policy.

Your program of study will consist of 36 hours:

9 hours of pedagogy and curriculum
15 hours of mathematics, statistics, or mathematics education content
12 hours of research and leadership

We base admissions decisions on a variety of factors including past performance in course work, especially mathematics course work, GPAs in past degree programs, entrance exam scores, and letters of recommendation. Minimum Requirements We suggest that applicants submit their official GRE or MAT scores during application, but these are not required for applying or admittance. While completing the Graduate School application, you will need to provide: 3 letters of recommendation You will identify your letter writers and their email addresses when you apply, and they will receive an email from the Graduate School asking them to complete the form online. Choose recommenders who know your academic work well and can speak to your capacity to engage in graduate level study of mathematics, to perform well in courses requiring high levels of reading and writing, to work as a classroom teacher, and to be successful in a graduate program. Do not solicit "character references" from friends, family, or people you know socially. Transcripts Applicants should submit unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended as part of the online application. Official transcripts are not required during the review process and will only be required for applicants who are offered admission. Do not mail official transcripts until offered admission.
