The Master of Arts in Teaching program prepares candidates for secondary mathematics teacher certification (grades 6-12), designed for individuals holding a bachelor's degree in mathematics or a closely related discipline with substantial mathematical training.

Fulfillment of all certification prerequisites, including non-degree requirements (such as undergraduate coursework), is mandatory prior to degree conferral.

This curriculum requires completion of a minimum 46 credit hours, culminating with a final written comprehensive assessment.

The state of Georgia now requires that all teacher prep candidates either pass the GACE Program Admission Assessment or exempt it (1000 Verbal + Math SAT, 43 English + Math ACT or 297 Verbal + Quantitative GRE) before they can be accepted into programs. The state also requires that all candidates have a minimum 2.5 GPA on undergraduate or previous graduate work. Go to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission website for details. While completing the Graduate School application, you will need to provide:

You will identify your letter writers and their email addresses when you apply, and they will receive an email from the Graduate School asking them to complete the form online. Choose recommenders who know your academic work well and can speak to your capacity to engage in graduate level study of mathematics, to perform well in courses requiring high levels of reading and writing, to work as a classroom teacher, and to be successful in a graduate program. Do not solicit character references from friends, family, or people you know socially.
Transcripts:
Applicants should submit unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended as part of the online application. Official transcripts are not required during the review process and will only be required for applicants who are offered admission. Do not mail official transcripts until offered admission.
