Linguistics is the scientific study of language's intricate systems. This field encompasses phonology, phonetics, morphology, syntax, and semantics, examining both modern and historical languages from synchronic and diachronic perspectives. The M.A. program aims to give students foundational knowledge in key linguistic research areas, an overview of the discipline's diverse subfields, and specialized expertise in two chosen focus areas. This prepares graduates either for advanced Ph.D. studies in Linguistics (at UGA or other institutions) or for careers requiring a master's degree in Linguistics. The M.A. program offers both thesis and non-thesis completion paths.
