Linguistics is the scientific examination of language's intricate systems. It encompasses phonology, phonetics, morphology, syntax, and semantics, studying both modern and ancient languages from synchronic and diachronic perspectives. This field covers two related domains. Languages naturally evolve over time, creating synchronic variations. These linguistic differences frequently result in social evaluations of particular traits, and such assessments or other societal influences (like language interaction) can further propel language evolution. Research on language variation explores current and historical trends in linguistic shifts, including ongoing changes, social aspects connected to variation, and practical methodologies for analyzing language in real-world contexts.
