Guided by the principle that anthropology should take a central role in researching and advocating for humanity's place in global environmental shifts, the University of Georgia has developed a groundbreaking Ph.D. program focused on ecological and environmental anthropology. Traditional environmental sciences lack the theoretical frameworks and methodological tools needed to fully comprehend our culturally complex species and its intricate behavioral systems. Starting in 1988, our department embarked on creating a top-tier ecological-environmental initiative, expanding our faculty, upgrading facilities, and securing additional funding. This expansion remains ongoing, with faculty dedicated to constant program enhancement. Our graduates typically complete their Ph.D. within 5-6 years and secure prestigious positions in both academic anthropology and environmental professions.
