The Department of Animal & Dairy Science provides graduate programs focused on research, awarding M.S. degrees in Animal Science or Dairy Science, along with a Ph.D. in Animal & Dairy Science. Specializations include biotechnology, breeding and genetics, meats and muscle biology, nutrition, reproductive physiology, and production management. The department also offers a non-thesis Master of Animal and Dairy Science (MADS) program. Faculty members are based in both Athens and Tifton. Students can take graduate courses in Animal and Dairy Science, supplemented by offerings from Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Food Science, Microbiology, Poultry Science, Statistics, and the College of Veterinary Medicine. For an M.S. degree, students must complete 24 credit hours of coursework plus 6 thesis hours. Ph.D. candidates follow a curriculum designed by their advisor and committee, with no mandatory minor or language requirements.
