Food Scientists utilize principles of science and engineering to examine the physical, chemical, and biological properties of food. They create innovative food items, devise food production methods, conduct chemical analyses of food, and assess food safety along with sensory characteristics.
Our objective is to share scientifically validated food knowledge via student instruction, to pursue, validate, and implement food-related information, and to engage through professional, academic, and community outreach initiatives.

The Division of Food Science and Technology provides graduate programs for both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, covering diverse specializations within the food science discipline.

Test scores: GRE (MS and PhD applicants only, not required
Three official letters of recommendation (sent by referees) online through the Graduate application system. The three letters usually come from former or current professors and professional supervisors.
A 1-2 page statement of purpose and a resume uploaded to the application system. Click here for more info about the Statement of Purpose. Additional writing samples are not required.

Minimum TOEFL score requirement: overall score of 80 with a score of at least 20 on the speaking and with a score of at least 20 on the writing portions.
Minimum IELTS score requirement: overall band-width of 6.5, with no single band (score) below 6.0.
