Students pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) launch and lead pioneering research initiatives that, combined with supplementary studies, prepare them to become trailblazers in their field and excel in diverse career paths across industry, government, or academia. Ph.D. candidates must demonstrate the ability to integrate information, generate novel insights, produce significant scholarly contributions to their discipline, and exhibit comprehensive subject mastery.
The Engineering Ph.D. program offers exceptional adaptability for both students and faculty to tackle modern engineering challenges. Through specialized Emphasis Areas within the Ph.D. in Engineering and the Ph.D. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering, students can concentrate on either a specific discipline or interdisciplinary focus.
All Ph.D. programs in the College, including the general Engineering Ph.D., its Emphasis Area tracks, and named disciplinary degrees, mandate completion of at least 72 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree in the student's chosen study plan.
