Students with academic interests that don't align with existing majors or that span multiple disciplines within the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences might consider an Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) major. The IDS program allows students to design their own curriculum and complete a Senior Thesis with guidance from a faculty advisor and advisory committee. Together with the IDS Coordinator, students form their committee and choose their primary advisor. This major requires at least 24 semester hours of coursework plus a 3-hour Senior Thesis focused on the student's chosen topic. Every interdisciplinary major must present a cohesive combination of courses from two or more fields, with at least one belonging to Franklin College. Important to note: although programs may incorporate courses from other University colleges, they cannot include more than 9 hours of upper-level (3000-4000) coursework from outside Franklin College.
