The Genetics Department fosters an inclusive and distinctive setting where students explore the complete range of molecular, evolutionary, and population genetics. Our program equips students for careers in biomedical sciences, education, academic research, and the biotech/pharmaceutical sectors. Graduates are highly competitive for entry into leading medical schools, professional programs, and graduate studies nationwide. As a core biological discipline, genetics examines genes, heredity, and organismal variation. This field encompasses how traits pass from parents to offspring, including gene structure and function, cellular behavior, population distribution, and evolutionary changes. Since genes exist in all life forms, genetic principles apply universally across bacteria, plants, animals, and humans.
