UGA's Middle School Education program equips students to address the educational, social, and emotional needs of young adolescents while earning teaching certification for grades 4-8. Field experience in schools forms the core of this program, with placements in middle-grade classrooms alongside mentor teachers starting in the first semester, culminating in full-time student teaching during the final term. The curriculum focuses on diversity, creating supportive learning spaces, serving high-poverty and multilingual communities, instructional strategies, family involvement, civic learning, and education policy. Students choose from six specialization tracks to gain certification in two subject areas: 1) Language Arts/Science, 2) Language Arts/Social Studies, 3) Math/Language Arts, 4) Math/Science, 5) Social Studies/Math, or 6) Science/Social Studies.
