Romance Languages focuses on exploring the literature, language, culture, and linguistics of specific global regions to build linguistic and cultural fluency.
At UGA, the Romance Languages major offers in-depth knowledge spanning from medieval times to contemporary literary and cultural movements. Students customize their studies by choosing one of four concentrations: 1) French or Spanish paired with a secondary focus in French or Spanish, 2) Italian or Portuguese combined with a secondary focus in French or Spanish, 3) French or Spanish with a secondary focus in Italian or Portuguese, or 4) Ibero-American Comparative Studies (examining Western countries with historical ties to Spain or Portugal).
Many undergraduates pair language studies with complementary majors like education, business, journalism, medicine, or sciences. Mastering two foreign languages enhances career prospects in both public and private sectors, while also preparing students for advanced academic pursuits.
