The Political Science (AB) program at the University of Georgia provides students with a comprehensive exploration of political systems through coursework in Political Theory and Methods (including legal philosophy, political philosophy, modern political ideas, and economic principles), American Government (covering public policy, democratic systems, regional governance, and legal processes), International Relations (such as global conflicts, political attitudes, and civil liberties), among other areas. Practical experience is gained through internships in legislative offices, advocacy groups, political campaigns, or government agencies at different levels, with many students opting for the UGA Washington Semester Program to combine academic study with hands-on work.
This major cultivates critical thinking, analytical reasoning, persuasive writing, and effective speaking abilities that prepare graduates for careers in government, political organizations, advocacy work, and leadership roles in business. Many alumni continue their education in legal studies, public policy, and teaching professions.
