The TESOL & World Language Education Program provides a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) for undergraduates. This program equips students to instruct modern, classical, and Less Commonly Taught Languages from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, granting them T-4 (initial) certification for teaching in Georgia's public schools.
During the 1998-99 academic year, the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents released "Principles for the Preparation of Educators for the Schools." This policy requires University of Georgia teacher educators to ensure their graduates meet high standards. Consequently, participants in the Foreign Language Education Initial Certification Program must review, debate, and sign a Quality Assurance Contract. This agreement outlines professional conduct expectations, support measures from faculty and graduate assistants for struggling candidates, and potential repercussions for non-compliance. Fulfilling this contract demonstrates both your ability to achieve the program's educator objectives and your dedication to being a responsible member of the school community and teaching profession.
