UGA's Art History program immerses students in the study of visual artifacts spanning diverse mediums, cultures, and historical eras.
Through foundational surveys, advanced art history classes, and interdisciplinary electives from humanities, sciences, and social sciences (excluding studio art and art history, but incorporating foreign language through intermediate level), plus an additional literature course, students gain comprehensive understanding of art's evolution within broader historical contexts. This curriculum cultivates essential analytical and communication abilities for professional achievement.
Those aspiring to art historical careers should plan for graduate education at the master's or doctoral level. Advanced degrees open doors to academic positions, museum careers, research opportunities, and art market roles. Alumni have successfully entered museum curatorial staffs, commercial galleries, and auction house specialist teams.
