The Ceramics Department fosters a vibrant community of undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students alongside faculty and technical staff, cultivating artistic growth in aesthetics, technical skills, and conceptual thinking. Through one-on-one tutorials, group seminars, and critiques, the program creates diverse platforms for idea-sharing within the broader arts landscape, with special emphasis on ceramics. It provides a rigorous studio experience by intertwining technical and conceptual challenges in an immersive setting. Students engage closely with faculty and are supported in interdisciplinary exploration. Beyond formal instruction, students join H.O.T (Handbuilt Or Thrown) Clay, a student-led group that organizes visiting artist workshops, gallery shows, ceramic sales, and yearly trips to the National Council of Education in the Ceramic Arts conference. The graduate program nurtures a tight-knit community of dedicated students exploring artistic inquiries and developing polished, individualized projects. Weekly seminars and critiques foster dialogue, while rotating faculty tutorials ensure diverse perspectives. The department emphasizes the importance of critically analyzing artwork beyond one's own practice, with students engaging with all professors throughout their studies.
