The Geography Department provides a wide range of degree programs and courses designed to equip students for various careers in geospatial sciences. Collaborate with faculty and mentors engaged in groundbreaking, internationally recognized research across seven key disciplines: Earth System Science, Medical Geography in Global Health, Places, Networks, and Flows, Geopolitics & The Global Economy, Catastrophes, Conservation, and Conflict, Sustainability & Global Environmental Change, and GeoSpatial Analysis and Techniques. Our graduate research spans diverse, interdisciplinary topics worldwide, such as climate change impacts on land cover, deforestation disputes, extreme weather phenomena, river ecosystem rehabilitation, healthcare availability, and new infectious disease threats.
Students can pursue either a Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Science (MS), along with a Doctoral (PhD) program, each involving coursework and original thesis/dissertation research. Graduate candidates collaborate closely with faculty advisors to refine their research focus within one of our specialized areas.

Qualification Requirements

Students must have a recognized baccalaureate, graduate or professional degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution. For applicants with a bachelor’s degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0), calculated from all grades and credits after the semester where the applicant reached 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores that are acceptable to the applicant’s intended academic unit or, for select programs, at least 465 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).

For applicants from countries (including Puerto Rico) where English is not the official language, a minimum score on one of these English Language Skills tests: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 550 paper, or 80 Internet; International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 77, or documented successful completion of the University of Florida English Language Institute program.
