The Reading and Literacy Education program provides Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Master of Arts in Education (M.A.E.) degrees in reading education. These nationally recognized, top-ranked programs are designed to assist both current and aspiring educators in enhancing literacy skills for PreK-12 learners.
The curriculum maintains high academic standards while incorporating contemporary theories, cutting-edge approaches, and proven methodologies in literacy instruction and evaluation. Students gain practical, research-backed teaching techniques while building competencies to foster language acquisition, literacy advancement, and scholastic success in young learners. Both degree options offer flexible online or on-campus formats, with most students finishing within 4-6 semesters.
The M.A.E. in Reading Education involves 30 credit hours of classes plus 6 research credits culminating in either a thesis or alternative project. Degree candidates collaborate with faculty advisors to create personalized study plans encompassing reading instruction, language arts, children's literature, and ESL education. This program welcomes qualified international students and those not primarily seeking Florida reading certification.
