The Science and Health Communications specialization equips scientists and health professionals with media communication skills while helping media experts grasp scientific concepts to craft clear, engaging stories for the public. This dual focus is accomplished through both theoretical study and practical coursework. Two distinctive features set this program apart from other science communication offerings in the country. Unlike programs that primarily train journalists, UF's initiative welcomes journalists specializing in science/health reporting while also preparing future public affairs officers, communication professionals, and researchers needing public engagement skills. Additionally, the curriculum emphasizes developing expertise in communicating complex science and health policy matters effectively.
