The Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering focuses on studying, designing, developing, and implementing computer systems and information processing methods. The CISE Department aims to teach computing fundamentals to both degree-seeking students and the wider academic community, generate and share computing knowledge and innovations, and apply computing expertise to address societal challenges.
To obtain a Ph.D., candidates must complete at least 90 graduate credits beyond their bachelor's degree. A maximum of 30 credits from a previous master's in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, whether earned at the University of Florida or another accredited institution, may be transferred toward the Ph.D. requirements. Students must request this credit transfer during their initial enrollment term, with final approval resting with the graduate school. These transferred credits count toward the first 30 required for the Ph.D.
