Psychology explores the study of human and animal behavior through a scientific lens. Students pursuing a psychology degree gain a comprehensive, science-focused liberal arts education. Graduates with a Bachelor of Science in psychology are highly valued across various sectors including business, education, and mental health. To establish a professional career in psychology, advanced graduate studies are typically required. The University of Florida's psychology program equips students with a solid foundation for careers in psychology or for admission to prestigious professional schools like law or medicine. The program highlights both the theoretical principles and practical applications of psychology, covering its roles as both a natural and social science. Psychology majors can choose between two specializations: general psychology or behavioral and cognitive neuroscience. Both tracks involve coursework in psychology, statistics, mathematics, and biology, with opportunities to complete a senior honors thesis. The specializations differ in their required courses. General psychology involves studying four core psychology areas along with electives, while behavioral and cognitive neuroscience emphasizes natural science-oriented psychology courses and permits select approved non-psychology classes related to modern neuroscience. This track also mandates additional math and biology courses compared to general psychology.
