Plant scientists play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing our present and future environments through careers involving food production, textiles, energy sources, medicines, decorative plants, landscaped areas, and natural habitats. The curriculum covers biological sciences, genetic engineering, ecological studies, plant functions, pest control, and eco-friendly farming methods. Those pursuing Plant Science gain a comprehensive understanding of plant cultivation science and its practical uses in both human-made and natural environments.
The plant science program equips students with a broad understanding of plant cultivation principles and their implementation in managing vegetation across cultivated and wild settings. With guidance from faculty mentors, students design customized study paths to develop specialized knowledge in diverse areas like eco-conscious farming, genetic improvement, biotechnological applications, horticultural businesses, native species preservation, plant healthcare, soil enhancement techniques, and turf management.
This academic program welcomes first-year students and qualified transfer candidates through statewide initiatives available at UF's Gainesville campus, Fort Lauderdale Research Center, Apopka's Mid-Florida Research Facility, or Milton's West Florida Research Center.
