The Bachelor of Arts program offers a liberal arts education with a focus on music, allowing students to complement their studies with minors in fields like English, psychology, or history.
At the University of Florida, the Musicology department combines historical, cultural, theoretical, and interdisciplinary methods to explore music through diverse lenses. The program fosters collaborative research, teaching, and creative projects between students and faculty while leveraging the university's exceptional interdisciplinary resources in African, Latin American, European, and Gender Studies, as well as the Digital Worlds Institute. Students receive comprehensive training through courses and seminars in history, historical musicology, and ethnomusicology. Graduate students collaborate closely with faculty mentors on both research and teaching initiatives. Faculty members also participate in musical performances, creating unique opportunities to blend performance, academic study, and community engagement. The Musicology program connects with UF's Center for World Arts and World Music Ensembles, enabling students to interact with international artists-in-residence through rehearsals, private lessons, performances, and community outreach programs.
