The Master of Music in Conducting program provides specialized training in Western choral, orchestral, and wind traditions. Participants get to lead acclaimed ensembles in the stunning Gates Concert Hall, acquiring practical conducting experience. The curriculum encompasses all facets of musical direction, including personnel management, music library coordination, audition processes, and recruitment strategies. Through personalized instruction and group seminars, graduates emerge fully equipped to progress in their professional careers.
This conducting degree offers three specialization tracks: choral, orchestral, or wind. Along with intensive study in their chosen focus, students take elective courses in musicology/ethnomusicology and music theory.
The program requires completion of these non-course components:
A full-length conducting performance
Comprehensive written and oral examinations
Graduate-level competency assessments in musicology and music theory
Regular attendance at convocation events
