Computer science involves studying how information is encoded, stored, transmitted, processed, and examined through various theories and methods. This field focuses on algorithm theory (including efficient procedures and programs), the structure of programming languages for implementing algorithms, and creating algorithms to solve real-world challenges. A key area of study involves exploring computer systems (both hardware and software) designed to execute these algorithms automatically.
At the University of Denver, the computer science department provides a Bachelor of Science degree in this field. The program has a strong mathematical foundation, and students naturally earn enough credits to qualify for a mathematics minor. An additional minor is mandatory, which can be in any subject area except mathematics or computer science.
