The jazz studies bachelor's degree offers comprehensive professional training in jazz music. Our accomplished faculty of artist-educators focuses on nurturing your creative potential while delivering the practical skills and expertise needed for a successful jazz career. In the modern jazz landscape, adaptability across musical styles is essential. Through diverse ensembles, specialized courses, visiting artists, and an active performance and recording calendar, our graduates are prepared to immediately enter professional roles as performers, composers, arrangers, recording artists, and arts administrators.

This 194-credit degree program includes 132 music-specific credits. The curriculum features weekly private instruction, participation in two quarterly ensembles, and courses covering music theory, history, arranging, conducting, and music technology.
Beyond DU's core curriculum, students must meet piano proficiency standards, pass sophomore performance evaluations, study non-Western musical traditions, attend Convocation events, and complete junior and senior recital requirements.
