Modern technological advancements enhance service delivery, optimize operations, and produce enormous data volumes. Naturally, data science has emerged as a crucial field of study and practice within the hospitality and travel industries.
The Ph.D. program in hospitality business analytics offers specialized education in data science tailored to the hospitality field. Graduates are equipped for challenging roles in academia, research, or corporate settings. This program leverages the combined strengths of the University of Delaware's Lerner College, including its Department of Hospitality and Sport Business Management and Institute for Financial Services Analytics, along with UD's Data Science Institute.
Faculty members pursue extensive research across multiple hospitality analytics disciplines, including pricing strategies, online marketing, financial analysis, guest experience optimization, and workforce management. The curriculum focuses heavily on analytical techniques, enabled by faculty access to the substantial data streams produced by industry information systems.
Participants in this program benefit from rigorous academic training, with coursework spanning hospitality operations, analytical methods, research techniques, and specialized seminars. Students may optionally begin with the thesis-based master's in hospitality business management to establish core competencies before advancing to doctoral studies (transition to the Ph.D. requires a separate application and fulfillment of program prerequisites).
