The Language Certificate Program offers non-majors direct exposure to global languages and cultures. Participants cannot obtain a certificate for a language in which they major or minor. To complete the certificate, students must enroll in two target language courses during DLLC study abroad programs and two courses on the Newark campus. Proficiency in Spanish is especially valuable in healthcare, global commerce, public service, education, and hospitality sectors, enabling effective communication with clients and partners, supporting business growth and negotiations, and serving diverse populations. In these areas, Spanish language abilities not only expand career prospects but may also result in increased earnings. Bilingual professionals often receive 5% to 20% higher hourly wages compared to single-language speakers. Additionally, Spanish proficiency showcases desirable traits like initiative, cultural sensitivity, and flexibility—qualities that employers across multiple fields highly value. Strengthen these competencies by joining our study abroad opportunities in destinations including Costa Rica, Granada (Spain), Buenos Aires, and others.
