To comprehend life on Earth, one must grasp the significance of the ocean. The majority of living organisms inhabit these waters that blanket two-thirds of our planet, while numerous essential Earth processes are tied to its physical characteristics. As a marine science student at UD, you'll explore marine biology, oceanography, geology, and related disciplines, alongside policy and environmental management. This comprehensive education equips you with the knowledge and abilities to address critical environmental issues like climate change, ocean acidification, sustainable fisheries, habitat preservation, and marine pollution. You'll specialize in either marine biology or oceanography, developing focused expertise for your future career or advanced studies.
Program Learning Outcomes Upon completing the Bachelor of Science in Marine Science with a Marine Biology concentration, graduates will demonstrate the ability to: 1) Describe core principles of marine biology, from cellular to organismal levels and their environmental interactions 2) Assess, interpret, and critique scientific data 3) Apply scientific methodologies and contextualize findings within marine biology literature 4) Examine the reciprocal impacts between human activities and marine ecosystems 5) Effectively communicate scientific concepts through both written and oral presentations
