Pursuing environmental science at UD equips you with knowledge about how natural systems function and humanity's influence on them. For those who love nature, this major provides pathways to address ecological challenges including wildlife conservation, green infrastructure, water purity, species diversity, global warming, clean energy alternatives, and other pressing concerns. The program adopts an interdisciplinary lens to examine atmospheric, marine, terrestrial, and ecological systems, allowing you to specialize through the available focus areas. U.S. labor statistics indicate environmental science careers will expand 8% more rapidly than general employment growth from 2019 through 2029.
Graduates of this program will demonstrate the ability to: 1. Express comprehensive scientific knowledge about environmental systems' features, operations, and assessment methods, along with challenges stemming from human interaction with Earth's ecosystems. 2. Utilize scientific principles and regulations to propose remedies for environmental concerns via individual/team projects. 3. Implement standard research methods and numerical techniques to thoroughly investigate ecological matters. 4. Combine technical and policy dimensions of sustainable power solutions (including wind, bioenergy, solar, and hydrogen technologies) while evaluating their economic and environmental consequences through presentations and reports. 5. Consolidate and interpret data from multiple disciplines during capstone projects and relevant hands-on learning experiences, presenting findings both verbally and in writing.
