UD's Early Childhood Education program equips students to support young children—both typically developing and those with special needs—in achieving their highest capabilities. Alumni are qualified to teach in public and private educational settings, serve as early intervention specialists and advocates, or join community service organizations.
The curriculum emphasizes developmental psychology, training future educators to select suitable teaching approaches and resources tailored to each child's social, intellectual, and motor development. Through hands-on training at our on-campus children's center and local partner institutions, students work with diverse populations of young learners, including those requiring special education services.
Program completers graduate as highly qualified professionals, meeting certification requirements for dual credentials: Early Childhood Education (birth through 2nd grade) and Early Childhood Special Education. This nationally acclaimed integrated program (among only a handful nationwide) prepares graduates for teaching certification across all U.S. states.
