The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music prepares students for professional careers as performers or collegiate music educators. This specialized program focuses on mastering a principal instrument while cultivating academic excellence and professional standards in music. Admission requires an audition on a primary instrument (including woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, classical guitar, harp, or voice).
The curriculum features intensive training in music theory, ear training, history, piano proficiency, and private lessons, supplemented by advanced electives like counterpoint, keyboard harmony, jazz theory, and specialized seminars. Students expand their repertoire through advanced literature courses and ensemble work, with performance opportunities ranging from large ensembles and opera productions to chamber groups, competitions, festivals, and solo recitals.
Graduates will: Exhibit advanced piano performance skills combining technical mastery with artistic interpretation grounded in theoretical, historical, and cultural understanding.
