The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music prepares students for professional careers as musicians or college-level music educators. This specialized program focuses on mastering a primary instrument while fostering academic excellence and professional standards in music. Admission requires an audition on a principal instrument, which may include woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, classical guitar, harp, or voice.
The curriculum features intensive training in music theory, ear training, music history, piano proficiency, and private lessons, along with advanced electives like counterpoint, keyboard harmony, jazz theory, and specialized seminars. Students also explore musical repertoire through advanced literature courses and performance ensembles. Performance experiences range from large ensembles and opera productions to chamber music, competitions, summer festivals, and solo recitals.
Upon completing the program, graduates will: Exhibit advanced technical mastery and artistic interpretation in cello performances, grounded in theoretical, historical, and cultural understanding. Apply research methodologies, analytical skills, and technological proficiency to effectively engage diverse audiences. Foster professional collaborations within both musical institutions and community organizations.
