The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music prepares students for professional careers as musicians or music professors in higher education. This specialized program focuses on cultivating exceptional musical skills on a primary instrument while fostering academic excellence and professional standards. Admission to the B.M. in Applied Music requires an audition on a principal instrument, which may include woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, classical guitar, harp, or voice.
The curriculum features intensive coursework in music theory, ear training, music history, piano studies, and private lessons, along with advanced electives like counterpoint, keyboard harmony, jazz theory, and specialized seminars. Students also explore musical repertoire through advanced literature courses and ensemble performances. Performance experiences encompass large ensembles, opera productions, chamber music programs, competitions, summer festivals, and recitals.
Upon completing the program, graduates will: Perform trombone repertoire with technical mastery and artistic depth, informed by theoretical, historical, and cultural understanding.
