The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music prepares students for professional careers as musicians or college-level music educators. This specialized program focuses on mastering a primary instrument while fostering academic excellence and professional standards in music. Admission requires an audition on one of the approved instruments, including woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, classical guitar, harp, or voice.
The curriculum features intensive training in music theory, ear training, history, piano proficiency, and private lessons, along with advanced electives like counterpoint, keyboard harmony, jazz theory, and specialized seminars. Students also study musical repertoire through advanced literature courses and gain performance experience in ensembles, opera productions, chamber groups, competitions, festivals, and recitals.
Upon completing the program, graduates will: Exhibit advanced technical mastery and artistic interpretation on their primary instrument, informed by theoretical, historical, and cultural understanding. Apply research methodologies, analytical skills, and technological proficiency to effectively engage diverse audiences.
