The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music prepares students for professional careers as musicians or collegiate music educators. This specialized program focuses on mastering a primary instrument while cultivating academic excellence and professional standards in music. Admission requires an audition on one's principal instrument, which may include woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, classical guitar, harp, or voice.
The curriculum features intensive training in music theory, ear training, history, piano proficiency, and private lessons, supplemented by advanced electives like counterpoint, keyboard harmony, jazz theory, and specialized seminars. Students expand their musical knowledge through advanced literature courses and ensemble work, with performance opportunities ranging from large orchestras to opera productions, chamber groups, competitions, festivals, and solo recitals.
Upon completing the program, graduates will: Exhibit advanced technical mastery and artistic interpretation on their instrument, grounded in theoretical, historical, and cultural understanding.
