The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music prepares students for professional careers as musicians or college-level music educators. This specialized program focuses on mastering a primary instrument while cultivating academic excellence and professional standards in music. Admission requires an audition on a principal instrument, which may include woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, classical guitar, harp, or voice.
The curriculum features intensive training in music theory, ear training, history, piano proficiency, and private lessons, along with advanced electives like counterpoint, keyboard harmony, jazz theory, and specialized seminars. Students expand their repertoire through advanced music literature classes and ensemble performances. Performance experiences range from large ensembles and opera productions to chamber groups, competitions, summer festivals, and solo recitals.
Upon completing the program, graduates will: Achieve technical mastery and artistic depth in euphonium performance, informed by theoretical, historical, and cultural understanding. Acquire research, analytical, and technological skills to effectively communicate musical concepts to varied audiences.
