Students submit their applications for the 4plus1 program during the spring semester of their junior year, or upon completing 75 credits toward their undergraduate degree. Biomedical engineering (BME) utilizes quantitative engineering analysis and design to address biological and medical challenges. BME uncovers fundamental insights into disease mechanisms to enhance human health and creates innovative technologies and treatments to enrich quality of life. This includes designing rehabilitation equipment for stroke patients, developing targeted drug delivery systems for cancer, modeling HIV disease progression, engineering cardiovascular tissue constructs, investigating osteoarthritis development, among other applications
Our undergraduate program educates students to connect engineering, medicine, and biomedical research. We offer a design-centered curriculum that combines comprehensive grounding in chemical, mechanical, materials science, and electrical engineering principles with opportunities to specialize and customize the program according to students' career objectives and interests. We equip students for professional careers in biomedical industries and advanced education pathways, including graduate studies, medical school, and other healthcare-related professions.
